Hi naylo, on boards i always use board finish now, i used to use multi all the time, but a while ago the multi was a bit crap so used the board,i just found it better to spread and the setting time was a tad slower.
IMO use the board mate.

just read on another thread....but why is pva the wrong thing??0

The best person to ask is misgrace, but if i remember, its because the pva seals the wall and puts a skin over the plaster,so if the paint peeled it would peel off like paper. As the mistcoat is watered down is absorbs into the plaster rather than sit on top. But then i maybe talking complete tosh..................as a wise man once said.....................................life is like a box of chocolate's.................0

I'm not a plasterer but have just decorated several freshly plastered rooms in my home so can answer this one
You need trade matt emulsion (white) and dilute it with water about 30-40% for the first coat (mist coat) then apply another coat with 15% diluted emulsion and then you can apply your finishing coats in whatever colour you choose as normal.
Paint can peel off if you PVA the plaster

next questions for our people then.........Ive bought a shed load of matt emulsion crown paint....can this be used as the mist coat - im thinking neat as it is cheaper than the trade stuff right?? or do I mix this too?? I dont mind coughing up for trade paint but i dont want to see 50litres of so white paint go to waste.0

To be honest i think crown is a good paint. Yep you can use it as a mist coat just dilute it 4-1, and if you got 50 ltrs of it then use it as you top coat, seems a waste of money getting more paint when you got all of that.0

thanks jason. if only I spent as much time doing the job as I did on here then mayabe my house would be done! LOL!0
