Keeping childrens savings safe..

Can anyone put me straight , if I were to open a savings acc in a grandchilds name is that money safe from being 'got at'. My daughter who claims several benefits as a single Mum, tells me that she was specifically asked had her children any savings when she applied for said benefits, does this mean that the childrens savings must be used to supplement the family income?... It might be better to just save the money myself and not in the childrens names if this were so....

if you save the money in your name, a/c the child, i.e. mrs mith a/c jimmy smith, then it has nothing to do with your daughter and so shouldn't affect her benefits0
