They are there for a reason, so the same questions don't get asked over & over again. But, guess what ...no one reads them and still ask the same questions over & over again

I would say yes. Scrolling down half a page just to see the new posts is daft. Other forums on MSE are just as bad.

They could be useful, but the stickies at the top of this board are up to 400-500 posts long. Nobody's going to wade through 500 posts on the off chance that one of them will answer their question. Some especially seem ridiculous to have as threads, let alone stickies. If I want to know if a retailer takes Amex, for example, I'll ask them or look for a sticker by the door, not hurry home to look it up on a website!

stickies stop multiple posts about the same thing - they are only there as so may threads are consistantly on the same theme..they are surley there to help as a number of people may have posted the same question..look at the titles the mse experiance may have already answered your question!!

I've often thought that stickies detract from using these forums.

A better use of stickies surely would be as 'closed' threads (hence only a single posting in each) which were then updated by the MSEr responsible by linking to relevent threads as and when these were added. That way you would actually go to a sticky and then scan innumerable titles of the links for those that seemed most relevent to the particular enquiry.

As they are used at the moment though they just get bloated and unreadable.

The trouble with BBs is that (almost) nothing gets removed - only ever added to
