    I only ever do them in a buttered glass - they usually take 3-4 minutes for 2. You'll have to experiment with your gadget.

    So, if you do them in a glass, you wouldn't be using a lid then. I suppose I should oil the wells a wee bit too. Never thought of doing that either. I will maybe do them for 2 mins, and then check them. Can't wait til lunch tomorrow now to give it a try.

    I bought two of those soft rubber thingys from Lakeland and I just rub a tiny bit of oil in them and bung them in a pan of boiling water .They are brilliant and the eggs are perfect ,no sticking either

    Don't think that would work with mine. It is about dinner plate size I suppose. I will oil it though.

  • I use big pan of boiling water, local butchers eggs (£1.22 for JUMBO), when water boils, crack on side, drop from about 10 inches, splash and whoosh, toast on. 3 and a bit minutes later, toast pops, butter on toast and egg on top.

    What is this thing called a microwave?

    Lol! I usually do mine in a pot, just thought it would be cheaper in the microwave for a couple of minutes, rather than boiling a big pot of water.

    I got one from Lakeland which is brilliant - two wells with a lid. I don't know if this would work with your one which sounds rather different, but what you do with the Lakeland one is:

    fill the wells 1/3 full of water, put lid on and heat on high for one minute.

    break an egg into each well, replace lid and heat on high for 45 seconds.

    let stand for 30 seconds

    This makes FANTASTIC poached eggs in the microwave and you don't have to pierce the yolk. You lift the egg up with a spoon and pour the water away and you have a "proper" poached egg.
  • Yours sounds really good 'chocclare'...mine is a two egg little plastic container with lid...dash of water.. piece egg yolk..place lid on securely..pray..cook for 50 secs approx..depends on size of egg..sometimes they go bang but not too often;). Dianne

  • I read this in a magazine and have been doing my poached eggs this way since.

    get a square of cling film and spray with fry light or similar oil, place oiled clingfilm in to a small cup or bowl with ends hanging over the edge but make sure you press the clingfilm into the cup. Crack an egg in to the clingfilm and gather up the edges and twist tightly to make a pouch (similar to a money bag). while you are doing this bring water to the boil once boiling put the clingfilm egg pouch into the water, I wait until it comes back to the boil then switch the hob off and remove the pouch when the egg looks and feels cooked.

    I used to cook them in the microwave in a cup which I rinsed with water then cracked egg in to it used a fork to spear the yolk and cook 30 seconds at a time.
