I havent read through the whole thread and maybe thios has been thrown in already but personally, I would just lift the phone and contact the Crimestoppers Number which is 0800 555 111.

Alternatively, you could fill out there online information form. the website is https://www.crimestoppers-uk.org all you do is need to click on the tab saying you wnat to give info.

Anyway, well done and good luck.

ok, but i havent got an anonymous e mail address and that person might not be online anyway or have an email address.

Easy and free to set one up though. E.g. googlemail. But it's the only way I can think of to give out practical contact details without giving away anything of your identity. And I don't think anyone really has an excuse to not be able to contact anyone by email if they really need to. Every public library I've been in has email access and I'm sure almost everyone who isn't online knows someone who is.

Unless anyone has any better suggestion.

Id leave it now, nothing more you can do.
  • Happened to my brother a few months ago, a driver reversed full speed up our road and smashed into my brother's car and drove off. No question of evidence because he'd just dropped off a passenger who was able to give my brother the guy's name even. The police found his house within about 20 minutes of the "accident" even happening. But all the police did when they got there was get the guy's insurance details to pass on to my brother and they just basically told him it was best in future not to drive away from an accident. No caution or anything . Which is why I don't think the police would bother doing anything in this case. In my brother's they got the guy and he'd admitted it along with multiple witnesses (including a passenger of the car) but even that wasn't enough for the police to actually go through a process of even giving him a caution. As far as they were concerned so long as my brother got the insurance details (which turned out not to be enough detail and slightly wrong anyway) that was the end of the matter.

I had some dappy bint go into the back of me at a roundabout - had been stopped for a while so not like I just slammed my brakes on. She drove off, went to the cops and they did end up taking her to court so it may be worth while.

Must be very dependant on the police force then. I mean in my brother's case the guy was driving completely recklessly. He'd already dropped of the passenger and our street is a cul de sac. The ONLY reason to have reversed full speed up the street would be to show off (about 1AM, hence why there were lots of witnesses as all the revving woke up the neighbours). But all the police did was give the guy some moral speech about not leaving accidents and a very silly thing to do. I was honestly gobsmacked that they didn't at least give him a caution or something.

I was very grateful to the witness, as it would have cost me a fortune to have it repaired myself and could have lost 9 years no-claims. Thank you that man!

You would have only lost the current insurance years no claims , ie your 10th year or 9th year , you do not lose everything .

I was just thinking about my past holidays in France and Italy. We have spent many an amusing time sitting in coffee bars watching drivers shunt in and out of parking spaces so small you couldnt fit a bike in. It is almost expected that you 'hit ' the car behind and in front so that you can manouevre to fit in the space. Nobody bats an eyelid

I know :D I remember sitting in a cafe in Paris and watching a small car pull up to a very small space. OH and I both said "That's not fitting in there!". Our faces when he shunted both front and back cars out of the way to park were priceless. Funny thing was the owner of one of them was sat watching as well and never batted an eyelid.

Then again, we went to Paris in a group and would have to draw straws for who sat in the front of the Taxi because it was so terrifying!

I know people tend to moan about drivers etc here in the UK, but I can't think of any country I've been to where the standard of driving and acceptible practices etc hasn't been quite a bit worse than here.
