Broken electric window - Hyundai

Hi,
My mum has a Hyundai Accent, about 10 years old. The electric window, driver's side has recently started playing up. It was stuck open and was very difficult to get it to close. There is still a small gap at the top where it won't close fully.
Is there anything I could try either to fix this myself or find out what is causing the problem to avoid repair costs?
If I can't fix it I guess a Hyundai dealer would be the best place to have it repaired on the basis that they're familiar with the car and should have access to any parts required.
Many thanks in advance for any help.

You could try spraying some spray silicone in to the runners, that may help it's free running.0

Yep. But to get to the runners you will have to take all the door trim off, so you may as well fix the problem yourself whilst your at it.
I would take it to a dealer in this situation. Dont hyundais have amazing long warranties? Is it still under warranty?0 -

No it is not a WD40 type thing, it is in a similar aerosol can, it is a spray that can be used on interior panels to make them shine, ask at your local Halfords or similar, it is extremely slippery stuff.
This may, or may not cure the sticking window, there is no need to take anything apart, just spray it down the runners at the front and rear of the window, then run the window up and down a few times.0 -
The last time I had this problem it was the teeth on the half wheel which engage into the spindle on the motor. If they are worn or broken it will need to be replaced.
You haven't said what the problem is it could be:-
The teeth
Motor
Runners.
Obviously if it the motor it won't work at all, the runners would make it stick and run in a laboured fashion. If its the teeth then you will get a clicking sound as the motor spindle tries to engage the teeth.
Best bet is to get door trim off and have a look, ensure all screws (in door handle etc are out) and then lever it off.
Replacing the teeth should not be a problem though.0 -
Hi
Thanks everyone. I don't know what the problem is with it. My mum just told me about it and she said it's making a sort of crunching noise and is not operating freely - it took several attempts to get it to close as much as it has.
I haven't had a look at it yet - due to time and the fact she is worried that if it goes down we might not get it to close again and then would be at risk of burglars/weather etc.
Sadly is it quite old so unfortunately no longer under warranty.
Thanks again.0 -

THat sounds like the toothed mechanism. Personally I would be buying the part and fitting it myself. You just need to check first and the order the part either from a motor factors or the main dealer.0 -
Hi,
See the electric window regulator repair kits on eBay for a range of models (including Hyundai):
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HYUNDAI-ACCENT-LANTRA-COUPE-WINDOW-REGULATOR-REPAIR-KIT_W0QQitemZ200213419396
At £12.95 and a little of your time it's a no-brainer.
I used one on my Freelander window and the instructions that come with it were brilliant. It should outlast my car - the wire supplied is stainless steel.0
