Senseo/Tassimo - advice please!

Am considering buying one of these coffee pod machines and am looking for some advice.
Am I right in saying it's a choice between Philips Senseo and Braun Tassimo, Nescafe Dolce Gusto and Kenwood Mokabista or are there other versions available too?
Which would you recommend?
Which format has more coffee available?
Or are the pods interchangeable?
How much cleaning up needs to be done after coffee is made (main motivation in buying one in the first place!)
Any other information to help me with this possible purchase?
Many thanks.

I can only reveiw the Senseo as I have no experience with the others.
I have had mine 3 1/2 years and had no problems with it at all. You can get medium or dark roast bags or decaf for it and they are both good but I bought some eco-pods from EBay which are basically plastic pods that you can fill with your own choice of coffee and then empty and re-use them so its much cheaper and they taste better.
There is very little cleaning needed with the Senseo as you take the bag out and throw it in the bin but if you use the eco pod it will need emptying in the bin and rinsing under the tap.0 -
We got a Tassimo in December, it makes good coffee and there is quite a lot of choice. Cleaning is very simple.
The only drawback is the price of the discs. For black coffee they are £2.99 for 16, cappucino works out at twice that. Asda did a "4 packs for £10" offer, but have stopped it now. I have not found a cheaper on-line supplier, so if anyone knows one.....................?0 -
Forget the capsules, they cost a fortune and limit your choice. I bought a De'Longhi Cafe Treviso (they're £45 on Amazon) and have been very impressed with it. It replaced an old machine I'd bought in Italy and does a much better job, especially at frothing the milk for a cappuccino and puts a lovely head (crema) on any espresso.Signature on holiday for two weeks0

Tassimo all day long. Variety is much better than senseo. Make sure you pick up a bosch machine and not an older braun model.0

100% agree with above. Tassimo is so simple. Tried all the varieties but now just buy the Kenco decaf. which is delicious for later in the day and the Starbucks blend makes a great milky mugful. The system tends to make smallish stronger cups by default but its simply a case of holding the button down to run more water through to suit the strength/cup you choose.
my routine is put 3rd a cup of milk in a mug, microwave for 40 seconds, whilst thats running I get a pod and slip it in the machine (and top up the water tank if needed but its pretty big) get the mug, shove it in the Tass. and press the button, done in a minute and sling the pod in the bin.
In a year I have run the simple descale program once - more out of curiosity than need, its got a light to warn when its really needed but our water is bad so want to look after it.
Best of all, when I bought my Bosch machine it was half price in Argos at £58 - what a steal!European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.0 -

Yep love our Tassimo also. Plenty of choice of drinks.
order from the Tassimo website shop for best choice of all drinks (prices pretty much the same as supermarket prices and Kenco decaf is generally cheaper than supermarkets). Recommedn the Petit Dejeuner as a nice mugful in the morning of very drinkable not too strong coffee
Finally don't throw your pods on the bin us http://www.terracycle.co.uk/ and throw them in a bag and then box them up every month or so and freepost them off so they can get reused. Also collects 2p per T disc you send in for charity
Like Sillygoose we use hot/warm milk rather than the expensive creamers and it tastes better (and you can use skimmed/semi skimmed etc)
Hmmm just noticed the opriginal post is rather old and someone has reseurected it - oh well!0 -
I have Gggia machine (cubika), which does not use pods, and I am very happy with it. however, you can use Senseo pods with it, or you can try all the different varieties of coffee without the pods. It has steamer, and I have cappuccino every morning.
I use Senseo pods during the week, as it is easier to clean up and faster, but then have nice coffee for the weekend (I am due a trip to Booths to stock up again!).
Have a think about getting 'normal' coffee machine, as then you have a choice between using ground coffee and pods.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
