Tell me about investments

If I wanted to invest some money, how would I go about it? I have to stress that I know NOTHING about investments and how it works. Is it worth it or would I get a good return on it? Obviously I want to make money, not lose it.
Thanks

I think you'll have to add a little bit more detail than that.
How long do you wish to invest for? What type of risk level are you willing to take? How much do you have to invest? 0 -

I have roughly £2000 from an inheritance to invest. Timewise? No idea. As I said, I know nothing about investments. It was suggested to me to think about this. Obviously I want to make money on it but I'm not a huge risk-taker.0 -

You need to quantify what you mean by that. Perhaps the easiest way of looking at that is to say how much of a loss in a given 12 month period would you accept on th investment before you got cold feet? 10%, 20%, 50% or other figure?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
