"Tick" keyboard shortcut??

Fire up the Charachter Map (Accessories/System Tools menu), and you can either read-off the relavent shortcut for every font on your system or simply C&P it.
If you don't have charmap.exe, you can enable via "Add or Remove Windows Components"0 -

I think if you use the font marlett and A should also get you a tick in MS Excel but it doesn't work here0 -
✔ here is a proper tick not a square root symbol you can copy and paste this.
On my mac I had a row of these in the Stickies so I could copy and paste them but I have just found this…
go to edit>substitutions>show substitutions>tick text replacement box and click Text Preferences lozenge>click text at the top>click+>choose a keystroke or combination (I chose alt$ ) and then in the next box paste that nice tick.
Once done in every application that you have checked Text Replacement
and you type alt$ you'll get ✔ remember you have to press space bar after it or it won't change ✔✔✔0 -
One would hope that the OP would have solved the problem 3 months ago!0
