Help can they do this ?

Hi all,
please please if someone could give me some advice as i am not sure what to do.
On saturday i visited a salon that does laser treaments for acne red veins ect.
After a consultation and i decided to go ahead as i have quite alot of marks and red veins due to previously having cystic acne.
I was told i would need 3 treatments spread out over 3 months and there would be some bruising whick could be covered with make up.
I had a test patch on a couple of veins and was told if i was to pay for all my treatment today i would save £150 MAKING IT £300 IN TOTAL.
So i payed and left and within an hour realised that i had done the wrong thing.
The 3 marks i have are purple they look like birthmarks and look a mess which can not be covered in make up.
So i rang them back saturday but they were closed and since then done what i should of done first and researched into it.
And found out it can cause pigmentation scaring and i feel so consious of these marks now and in 2 weeks they would of been doing my whole face area.
So today i rang them and basically explained my concerns ect and said i dont want to go ahead with it and could i have a refund.
And they said no i cant have a refund to which i did go mad so now before i talk to them again i want to know were i stand.
I cant believe they can keep money for doing nothing also i have given them plenty of notice as they do have a 24 hour cancelation policy which i am not breaching.
So i am a loss does anyone have any suguestions of what i can do as i cant seem to find anything out.
Thanks for reading

  • I am having laser treatment on my face through the NHS, and can confirm that the laser does cause small circular bruises, but they disappear within two weeks and I have seen a marked improvement after just two sessions, and I still have four more to go.
The hospital has given me camoflage make-up and have also shown me how to use it, so I can at least hide the bruising if I wish.
I can't offer you any help with getting your money back and to be honest I would never let anyone point a laser at any part of my body unless they were a qualified cosmetic surgeon, but it may be possible to have your treatment on the NHS if the scarring is bad enough.
I hope someone can help you get your money back and if you want any more info about the treatment, feel free to PM me.

Whats the wording of the cancellation policy? Its likely the person doing the lasering will just be a technician, not a doctor.Did they not show you photos of what the bruising looked like?Arent you suposed to protect your skin from the sun for a few months before you have this treatment?
  • Yes, you're supposed to use a total sunblock before during and after treatment, you must not use self-tanning lotion either.
Laser treatment can be very dangerous if not used correctly.

BTW, the cosmetic surgeon that is treating me said that you should only have one treatment ever 8 weeks, a month isn't giving your skin enough time to heal in between treatments.

They are going to say you should have rang them Monday, not left it till Tuesday.
Not trying to be horrible, but they are going to say this to you straight off. The 24 hours might have carried you through to Monday (same time as you paid Saturday), but they are not going to extend it 48 hours for you.

To be honest, you paid for a service which they were happy to provide for you, and you have changed your mind, so I would be surprised if you were actually entitled to anything. Your best bet might be to throw yourself on their mercy, and hope that they are sympathetic, however I would still be surprised if you got the full amount back.

Are you really sure you have given this enough time to make a decision? I understand that you are surprised by the extent of the bruising, but if it did go down in a couple of weeks and the results were satisfactory, would you still not want the treatment? I would be very surprised if the person doing the lasering was not fully qualified - the equipment is very expensive, costs a lot to insure etc and requires quite an in depth knowledge to operate, so it might be worth checking the qualifications of the person you saw if you are concerned about that aspect of the process.

I would also consider what information they gave you about the potential risks - if you feel that they downplayed the side effects then that could also be a good reason to request a refund, or if you think that your reaction to the test area shows you are not a good candidate for the treatment - presumably that is the reason they carry out the test? Or had you already had the test and been happy with the results before paying?
  • Hi All,
Thanks to everyone responding to me just thought i would give you all an update and for anyone in future if they experience anything similar.
Basically i kept ringing them and they kept saying i will get someone to ring you back they didnt.
So i contacted trading standards and they said it seems unfair and that i did have a case to take them court.
This was something i didnt want to have to do but i would of if needed.
Well yesterday i rang them and said if i dont get to speak to someone in charge i would be coming in.
I told them i have contacted trading standards and i would be also be willing to write to a local newspaper to make other people aware of keeping peoples money without treatment.
Within 5 mins the MD phoned and was very sorry and offered a full refund.
I am glad i didnt just accept what the girl in salon first told me and lose £300
as i am sure some people would.
    Thanks again
