Have you ever actually owned a Jap car? Have you ever driven 1? These are the cars that i sell for a living and i dont think that you know what you are talking about. Tired, nondescript boxes? What jap car/cars are you commenting on here? The Impreza, Evo, Type R, 350Z?
I would love to know mate0 -
A very knowledgeable post from someone who has never owned a Citroen! I have owned a fleetload of them and they leave Ford standing for just about everything.
I do wonder how some cars sell at all. Some of the Japanese cars are so incredibly ugly that even a moneysaving git like me couldn't bring himself to have one. And I am not concerned at image whatsoever, as anyone who knows me will confirm. As for Rovers, when did they last produce a half decent car. Ancient technology, rubbish build quality, laughable reliability, and of course poor residual value. And having suffered a couple of their cars on hire in the past, bl**dy awful to drive.
And with regard to the C1/Aygo/107, the saleswoman confirmed that they don't shout about their Eastern European origins unless pushed, as it is seen as a "negative" in terms of selling cars. They have only imported a small number at present as they are all largely untested. The few that are being sold in 2005 are to people who will become unwitting "guinea pigs" for reliability and build quality. This is what Smart did with its Roadster. That was largely untested too, and owners have been rejecting them all over the place. The experiment failed.0 -
As i said in the post that you reply to, what Jap cars are you actually commenting on? Awful to drive, ancient technology? You tell me that you have had a couple on hire, i would love to know what cars we are talking about here. A Jap car with ancient technology? Please tell me which cars this applies to.
I sell around 4 to 6 cars a week off my forecourt and have imported for 5 years now and they fly out.0 -

Oh we've owned a Citroen alright. A 1.1l Saxo a few years ago, belonged to my brother although I was the one who had to bail him out on several occasions due to reliability problems. Eventually he wrote it off, the brakes failed (this on a 6 year old, regularly serviced car). When he hit the Fiesta in front, at around 10mph, the entire front chassis was bent and twisted to the point where the car was uneconomical to repair.
These cars have a dangerously light build, terrible electrics and the worst brakes I've ever experienced (the reason we knew there was nothing inherently wrong with the brakes is because they'd been stripped down and rebuilt on 3 occasions by 2 mechanics, and given the green light, but never had the efficiency I have been used to on every other car I've driven -- the 106 and other Saxo I drove were absolutely no better). Read reviews on the Saxo/106 and they say the same thing, awful, potentially unsafe brakes.0
