Credit Card Advice Appreciated

Options
Please read the first rule of Form Etiquette - and be gentle! I am a little slow when it comes to working out finances!

For various reasons, including the credit crunch and my finances being linked to my partner who has shoddy credit due to student debt hassles (now resolved), I am now unable to surf my credit cards. Egg interest free ended a few months ago, and MBNA ends next month. In addition to this we are now just about breaking even (using the budget tool and some tips) in the incomings and outgoings and can't afford to pay any more than the minimum on each of the two cards.

I have £6250 on Egg on which I pay £125 min. and £5500 on MBNA - the interest free period runs out next month and I will likely be paying £100+ - again, just the minimum.

Is it 'possible' to shuffle these without upping my limit - I really don't think that they would up my limit more?

And, is possible that we could borrow the balances 'mega-temporarily' in the near future(i.e. for a few days until this all goes through) if that is necessary. Would that mean we could pay off a balance on one (with borrowed cash) transfer the other balance to that, and...oh this is where I get completely confused!!

Could some samaritan try to pick the bones out of the above and offer a step by step guide to how I could be better off, and start to properly chip away at my debt! We do not want any more credit (unless of course a miraculous cheap loan appears!) for a long time - we just want to try to pay off the credit we have without taking 40 years!

I know this is a big ask - but you will have done a very lovely thing (:A)if you can help me with this worry!

Thanks in anticipation

  • Have I? I can handle the truth - just be gentle!

Our situation will have improved in two years (we are currently on one and a half incomes - we will have two incomes when I qualify in 19 months!) and we will throw all our spare cash in clearing these credit cards. We have already cut them up and are going to live without them from now on.
