Possible ovarian cyst - what next?

This will probably be deleted, but I'm really worried. I've been diagnosed with a possible ovarian cyst, and am awaiting an appointment at the hospital for an ultrasound, but haven't been told what will happen if one is found, anyone got any experience of this and can put my fears at rest?

I had one of these little blighters a few years ago, the doctor who examined me thought I had fibroids which was why I was sent for an ultrasound! Nothing more was ever mentioned of the fibroids so I assume there weren't any!!!!

You will probably be given an early appointment as you will need to have a full bladder to have the ultrasound. You will be informed what to drink (i.e. no drinks with milk in beforehand and how long before your appointment you should drink XXX amount of water etc. I think kyou have to wait till you get home for brekkie too, I forget)

Even if they find a cyst I wouldn't worry too much. I had to go for a further ultrasound about six weeks after the first one and it had disappeared on it's own.

I had one a week ago, when they thought it was appendicitis, but the doctor found nothing unusual. Since then I was referred up to gyn who swabbed me and had a feel (nice) and was almost sure it was a cyst.

Funny... my mum's also vanished, but they didn't realise until they'd started keyhole surgery. (Sore for a few days for no reason)

She has a friend who thinks he's psychic, he claimed the credit.

I had the pain since the 14th, has been ongoing since then, was admitted to hospital that night until the Saturday (after being poked and prodded and them not being able to find anything) then discharged with Tramadol, was excrutiating the next Thursday, went to the doctors and was immediately sent to gyn, who poked and prodded again, and diagnosed a cyst or an infection, but almost positive it was a cyst. Now waiting for another ultrasound.

A lady I work with has got one of these, she has been getting bigger for the last month, and looks 8 months gone. :eek:
She was sent for an ultrasound, but there was too much fluid.
She has now had an MRI scan and is waiting to go in and have it removed.

I hope I don't get to that stage, lol, though my stomach has gotten slightly bigger :eek:

If it's just for a pelvic scan (which I think it will be) you will be able to eat and drink as normal, you just need to make sure that you have a full bladder (at bursting point is ideal :eek: ) Sometimes the sonographer can get a better view by doing an internal examination with a small probe, it doesn't hurt and only takes a few minutes so they may ask if they can do that as well.

She is having some discomfort, but the consultant didn't seem too bothered and she hasn't been whisked in yet.
