Best High Street For 6 Month Lump Sum Investment

I have £100k to invest but I will need access to it in about 6 months time, The stockbroker I went to today,said the high street banks/building societies were my best bet but which one?. ie Safe as poss but max return

any ideas???????

I would recommend a Northern Rock - Tracker Online, if you haven't already had one, as they are currently offering 5.41% Gross for 6 months. This includes an introductory 0.71%, so after the 6 months it drops to a poor 4.7%. The intro rate only applies if you have not had an tracker online account which gave you an intro rate at anytime. This means you are only entitled to this offer once in your lifetime!
After that I think Bradford & Bingley eSavings Account or Cahoot are offering 5.10% Gross
