Possible Sky warranty scam

I've had a couple of phone calls over the weekend from companies trying to sell me Sky Digital equipment protection. But the one i had today was extremely nasty. The call came from a witheld number from a company called Satellite Services (they are not the company that came up in a google search as i telephoned them back). He told me my warranty had expired and i needed to renew i explained that i did not need a warranty and if the equipment failed i would just phone sky and cancel. He said no you can't cancel you've just taken out a new contract for the year 3 days ago so you can't cancel you will still have to pay. I replied that i hadn't taken out a contract and would get in touch with Citizens Advice, when i said i could manage without sky he said no you've taken out a new contract he was extremely nasty so i hung up.

Not a possible scam, a DEFINITE scam!

There are several firms at it. All scumbags.

Sky themselves are the BIGGEST scumbags for selling your details.

Last year i phoned Sky to opt out of them giving my information to 3rd parties, i just checked and they said they haven't given my information out.
I did buy a PVR in Argos before Christmas so i'm wondering if they passed my details on. I am totally fed up of this because i've subscribed to TPS and MPS yet i'm still inundated with crap phone calls and junk mail.

Doubtful Argos would even consider selling your details to a 3rd party, although they would pass it round there group of companies like confetti.

Problem that a lot of people have is they forget to tick the opt-out box just once, thats all it takes. (although it should, in reality be an opt-in). Entering online competitions also doesn't help, as the data collected on these can be immense.

Surprisingly companies still don't routinely check MPS or TPS when they start a 'campaign', and opt-out boxes on individual records are not always correctly filled as well. Fines are such that its sometimes not even worth there while to check, as all they'll get is a warning letter from the ICO to tell them to sort it out.

What you need to do is clamp down on the contacts you do get, and tell them to stop. If they fail to do so report them to the ICO. My last victory was against Lloyds TSB, and before that Sky. Since the ICO got involved both have stopped annoying me.

Now some company doing a 'survey' is calling me (even though I'm TPS - who don't care as its a 'survey' - and ex-directory) next target is those ******.
  • Ive had a letter recently about sky extended warranty whatever it is, except it says my contract has recently expired. Only problem is, im not on a contract im on a month by month pre-pay thing which was taken out 18 months ago. Couple of days later, I got another two for two previous occupants of the house who left years ago!

In the past, I've had letters about my Sky equipment and offering warranty for equipment which is out of date.

I know Sky have not sold my details on - I have never had any service from Sky whatsoever! So I treated the letter much like a phishing email - just ignored it.
