Well I just got the same letter as you all and my account is £1.00 in credit!!
I've just done a bt to Virgin as I stupidly spent on my M&S card after bt. So glad I bt now - this hike would have crippled me with a new baby due and reduced income due to ML.

Yeap, come home from work to find out they'd up my rate to 22.9  I'll be BT any remaining balances onto my virgin card that has 0% on it till next year then closing the card.0

Great, just as I thought, as soon as i mention I've not heard anything low and behold what drops through the letter box the very next day!!!! I'm now on 20.9% Spose it could be worse.
RBS have written in a very small box on my statement they are raising the interest to 20.832% on purchases, balance transfers and money transfers. Does this mean my exixting balance transfer rates are changing from their original offer to this new rate?? If so I'm stuffed.0 -
I've had the same letter but it does say:-
"This will not affect any promotional introductory rate you may have"
So as long as you don't use card you should be okay.0 -
I switched to M & S card from Tesco last year and ordered jeans on Boxing Day which never arrived but was charged for. When I phoned to query this I got India and the person gave a long explanation but found I could just understand about two words. Gave up in the end as I was paying for call. Tried another number and got Scotland, lady checked and found the jeans were out of stock and apologized for charge, promised to refund cash (which they did) and said I would receive a voucher for £10 to spend in store (never arrived). I hate having to deal with India, I appreciate everybody needs jobs but always find I cannot understand properly, Virgin are as bad. For this reason alone I will be switching but will find out first where my calls are directed to.0

Personally, I'm only interest in the best deal. Having a Scottish accent, I've learned over the years that if I speak slower and make an effort to speak clearer then it makes things easier phoning customer services. Never been to Wexford, but done a lot of work in Dublin - I thought that we speak fast but those folks beat us hands down"A child of five could understand this. The call centre thing is an ongoing bug for me.....picture the scene...you're doing a balance transfer for £5K and haggling over rates and fees and you're not confident about whether they've fully understood you....you put the phone down and wonder what will happen next.....I've been very lucky so far. Yes we like 24/7 access but we should also be given a timetable where you can call and get a UK Call centre 95% of the time. If you choose to call outside that timespot then that's your choice. Doing anything remotely complicated or complaining about anything to India is hard work!
Regarding interest rates, they've actually put mine down to 18.9% so I don't know what's going on there - it's hardly enticing though! For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070
