I gave BT braodband basic at my Dad's house and wish to use an ethernet modem on his XP dell machine. It does not work. Any advice on how to get connected as it seems to me that BT broadband only works with the BY voyager 105 modem and BT software. Any tips?

I use blueyonder broadband and my cable comes from the pc’s Ethernet port to the broadband modem.
The live feed fixes to the modem, I had a choice of USB or Ethernet and I picked Ethernet.
If both your modem and computer have an Ethernet port, then just connect the cable and install the software.
The modem will then take the live feed from the landline.
I'm not poor i'm just skint

modem ethernet one does power up, internet works with the BY voyager usb modem but i wish to use my ethernet one on this machine.
itried going thro the modem software install but i thought from past experience on using this that ethernet modems with XP dont need any software installing as its an auto network connection...thats how it worked before with metronet.

try releasing and renewing your ip address with your ethernet modem installed.
    you can do this by.
start, run, CMD, enter, ipconfig/release, enter then wait, then ipconfig/renew.

you should be able to config your ethernet modem by typing something like 10.0.0.1, or 192.168.0.100 but you will have to check with the modem instructions.
