New Partner moving in - change to Child Tax Credits?

I am a single working mum who receives Child Tax Credits but very little/no Working Tax Credits due to hrs I work. My son's father died a couple of yrs ago & because we were seperated I don't get any extra benefits.

I am lucky enough to have met a new partner & we plan to move in together soon. Will this affect my Child Tax Credits - I was under the impression this goes towards child care fees - which will remain? And obviously my new partner is not the father of my son & I don't expect him to pay for his childcare etc!

Thanks guys...

All household income is counted towards tax credits regardless of whether the child is a relation of both people.

Pop your joint earnings into the entitled to site and see what the amended figures are. If you claim the childcare element, its capped quite low so you may lose that element if you both work.

When your partner moves in you need to call TCO straight away and let them know of your change in circumstances. They will then terminate your single claim and you will then have to reapply as a couple.

youd be entitled to the money off for child care, and if anything, im sure youd get quite a bit of other taxes rather than nothing at all, good luck x
  • thanks guys - that helps. its the only element i claim & I know i need to let them know as soon as it happens - I'm just preparing budgete etc & ensuring i'm not in for any nasty shocks before the move!
