Hoping someone might know why 90% of the emails I receive in Outlook Express have the little paperclip to show an attachment but as you'd expect most of them don't have any attachments at all - why is the paperclip showing ?
Any advice would be much appreciated

Yes - the man who set up my PC put it on and said its as good as Norton but free - is that true? - and do you think that's my problem ?0 -
iirc AVG adds virus-free certification text files to e-mails when it does its mail scanning. Could be what you're seeing.

I've tested it with a friend sending original messages so that can't be it. Thanks for the thought though.

It is something to do with AVG - I used AVG6.0 and never got them - they only appeared when I replaced it with AVG7.0.
They only appear on the Inbox window and not on the preview window unless there really is an attachment. Mine also appears on about 90% of e-mails - no idea why.
They don't seem to do any harm though so I don't worry about it.0 -
Right click on the AVG icon on your Taskbar - it's the square that's Red, Black, Green & Yellow
Left click on "Launch AVG Control Center"
Right click on "Email Scanner" & then click on "Properties"
Left click on "Configure"
Under "E-Mail Scanning"
UNCHECK the box for "Certify Mail" under the "Check Incoming Mail" box.
Leave both outgoing mail check boxes "ticked"
Removing the tick for "Certify Mail" (incoming) does not stop it being checked and any virus found will still be dealt with accordingly, however it stops the "No virus found in this incoming message." addition that AVG can add to the checked messages from being shown with a "Paper Clip" in Outlook ExpressThere are 10 types of people in the world. ‹(•¿•)›(11)A104.28S94.98O112.46N86.73D101.02(12)J130.63F126.76M134.38A200.98M156.30J95.56J102.85A175.93
