Superb! You've still not advised exactly what you are sueing them for, how you expect to win or roughly what items you were claiming for.

I bet you are still sure they think its a completly honest and genuine claim.

My bet is that there is more to this than meets the eye- caught out by forging documements would be my best guess.

Out of interest, have you fallen out with a neighbour recently or have some other enemy that could have a major grudge.

Insurers and fraud investigators will often act on tip offs from the public. Might be what happened here. Of course, that tip off could be malicious.
  • Sorry to hear that you are having such a bad time but just wanted to say that insurance assessors are not all bad.

When I was burgled, the assessor almost doubled my claim as I had completely missed claiming for things like the damage caused breaking in and the bedlinen taken to carry the stolen items, etc., etc. He argued a case for me (unasked) over the restriction on the total cover on jewellery which produced a lot more money than I had expected.

He also told me that I was the first person he had ever come across who had told him that the burglars didn't find the (£250) cash hidden in the house.

What kind of lawyer is your OH?

I ask because unless he is an expert in insurance law, I would advise you to be a bit wary of taking his advice as insurance law is a very specialised area and, from personal experience, I know it can be hugely expensive to pursue.

If your OH is experienced in this field, it will help enormously but mostly if he is a barrister as the case will undoubtedly end up in court - well mine (not the burglary) ended up in the High Court and I had to have counsel as well as a solicitor.

Hope OH is a barrister as they are the most expensive to engage!

Hope you get it sorted soon.

  • By the sounds of things your complaint should be with Crawfords, as they provided the report that Barclays will act upon, yet you are calling insurance companies the dregs of society?

You're looking to take them to court but you haven't been through the company's complaints procedure and then the ombudsman?

I hope it gets resolved to your satisfaction without you having to go down the path you seem to be intent on pursuing.

I've only had one experience of Crawfords and it wasn't very good, thankfully the company I work for doesn't use them.

dont get me started on crawfords i had a house fire in april the fire brigade said it was electrical but crawfords says different. they sent homeserve out to board the property and they could not do it on grounds of health and safety but it was a friday afternoon and they probably wanted to go to the pub so i had to get my own builder to board the property up. they said they would get me some rented accomodation and im still waiting they said i would get an interim payment as all the clothes i had was what i was standing up in and im still waiting, i was interviewed about the day of the fire 8 weeks after the incident. they said they would send me a copy of the statement to sign in a couple of days it arrived four and a half weeks later and the post mark was three and a half weeks after the date on the statement which is either fraudulent or it was sitting on there desk for three and a half weeks collecting dust. everytime i call them they do not return my calls and are economical with the truth or i get an answerphone. they told me i would have an answer on my claim within ten days from recieving the statement and that was 17 days ago i posted it. everything they have asked from me i have gave them right away..today i got through to marks and spencers executive office who are the people i bought the insurance from and finally somthing seems to be happening as i have had more phone calls today than i have had in the last 17 weeks so my faith might be returning in marks and spencers. it is a really upsetting time when your property and belongings have all gone and the whole experiance of this claim nearly drove me to suicide. i thought these companys would be a lot more sympathetic instead ive been homeless for 17 weeks and made to feel like a criminal. i also missed a payment on my morgage because i had to buy clothes and things which i have never missed before i really feel let down by all concerned. i have complained to the ombudsman
