Growing carrotts in sand
Hi all
I saw a reply to a thread on here about growing carrotts in sand/compost in a container. It seemed to suit what I wanted so told my OH. His first question was 'what sort of sand?' Can anybody help?
We have blue barrels to cut down and want to do two with potatoes and two with carrotts (as we manure our veg patch). We would love to try them in sand but not sure what sort to get! Can anybody help? Thank you!

I can't remember what thread in particular that was, but maybe you'll get some help from these threads?
Growing Carrots
HTH0 -
they should do fine in ordinary compost as long as there is drainage and regular water and feed (watch out for carrot root fly though)0

I mix my compost with sharp sand for drainage and grow carrots and parsnips with it in containers quite happily.0

If this is the thread - the same question came up today and was answered...sharp sand is fine/perfect.
I would keep the spuds to compost and mix it with well rotted manure meeself, and mix the sand with some compost for the carrots.
