Yes, if you get a tomtom then you can just buy and install the european maps using TT Home.

You can with Garmin as well and I would think with any other well known Sat Nav company. However it is likely to work out an expensive way of doing it due tot he cost of the maps. Unless the purchase price in the US is very cheap. It may be cheaper to buy one in the US with the European maps already loaded.

For example I hav a Garmin Nuvi 250 that came with UK and European mapping. If you buy one in the US the list price is $321 and it comes with maps of the US and Canada. To buy the European maps in the UK would cost you £119 so you would be better buying the Nuvi 270 in the US for $482 (although you could probably buy it for a fair bit less) which comes with US and European maps.

Having said all that check the prices in the UK first. A Nuvi 270 with US and European mapping is £187 at Amazon at the moment for example.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Yes no problem, just stick with Tomtom or Garmin NUVI(not Garmin C3xx).
Tomtom ONE $180 incl tax. UK map £40, Europe £60

    Nuvi 270 for £165

    Yep, no worries.

Got a tom-tom in Australia. Loaded the western Europe map onto a card and works fine here.

does anyone know of a good place to buy a Sat Nav in Las Vegas or San Diego that would have the USA and UK Maps loaded on them?

I'm off to Vegas on Sunday then move onto San Diego next Thurdsday where I will be be picking up a vehicle for drive up the Pacific Coast stopping in various places.

Happy enough using maps and my own sense of direction, but was thinking that if Sat Nav's are available at a very reasonable price in the USA then could be worth getting one as can then use at home when I return.

    Thanks
