Advice Please.

Anyone in the know tell me if it's worth getting a cheapo DVD recorder?

What do you get with a more expensive one (Apart from name) and what things are considered to be important when choosing a DVD recorder.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

  • Try this £99 including vat

    Full spec available here

In my opinion I would stay away from a higher spec machine as there is the soon to be released Blu ray machines or the equivalent. I am saving my pennies until then.

Nevertheless, the higher spec model is worth a look; http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductsList.asp?Name=ENT-LDW-5006+

I record a lot of stuff to keep and I've noticed DVD tech is not 100% compatable or reliable. Buy one with a HDD and record onto that first and then transfer to DVD (thats if you want to keep stuff long term).

But what do the higher specs actually mean? Are they important?
and is there something that any of them need to have to stay in front of current technology.

The cheaper machines record on DVD+R discs. Some DVD players won't play these recordings.
The higher spec machine will record onto two types of DVD(DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW) as well as the cheaper CD-R/RW discs.

I doubt that when the new higher storage DVDs(Blueray, HDDVD, Holographic storage etc) are available, that they will compete on price. Apart from that, there is little need for them in the average household.
Though I'm sure they'll try to convince you that you can't live without one.
