in Credit cards
I have had my new Capital One card cancelled today and will be re-issued straight away with new pin. Apparently some cards are at risk and mine is one of them. I have only had it a month and used a couple of times.
Is it normal to have a security alert so soon?? I have only used it when I'm present and at reputable stores.

I'm also in the 4% cashback period too! I did mention this at the time as I want the period extended to cover the time I'll be without my card.
It's very frustrating as the card was to be used for a project starting this week, I hope they get the new one to me quickly.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for security - but this quick alert is a bit worrying....

Always possible we recently had some dodgy transactions that were picked up by the Coop bank. Card in question hadn't been used for an extended period of time and then had been used 3 times earlier that week in 3 reputable high street stores.!0

My parters capital one card has been cancelled about 4 times in the last few months. It was every time he used it at the petrol station, they would cancel it automatically, then phone him up to tell him. Needless to say he doesnt use it at the petrol station any more!0

I read somewhere you are more likely to be the victim of credit card fraud at a petrol station than on the internet. I only use cash at petrol stations now, unless it is pay at the pump.0 -

interesting!! i have heard from my credit card fraud proctection department today.. it seems about 14 transactions went through for prepaid phone credit overnight. the only time i have used the card this year was at a petrol station at the beginning of the month when the bank cancelled my debit card a month early and before i had the new one through - so i found myself working 50 miles from home with just my credit card to get petrol for the journey homeDogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
I didn't use mine at a petrol station, I too only use cash as there have been problems before with my bank debit card!
My purchases were with WH Smith and Boots instore!
I could confirm all the transactions as mine. The reason they wanted to cancel it was because they couldn't confirm the full security of a batch of cards, not from transaction problems.
My card was only a month old and other cards issued at the same time had been compromised, so they were recalling this batch.
It sounds all very mysterious, but if some of the batch sent out at the same time have been used fraudulently I guess they must have to cancel them all.0 -
..... of course it could be an attempt to stop me getting 4% cashback for a while - cynical me:D0
