How much to chop down a eucalyptus tree?

Hi folks, I am looking for a rough figure. We have a fifty foot eucalyptus tree at the bottom of our garden, it's not a problem to us but it casts a shadow over our neighbours gardens. I am after a rough ball point figure as to how much it would cost to get chopped down or pruned and all waste removed. Thankyou in advance.

I am waiting for my tree surgeon to come and cut my beech tree down, also 50ft (diseased, no choice).

I got several quotes ranging from £600 to £750.

Thanks Biggles, I shall be ringing around a few companies shortly but if anyone else has had one chopped down lately then I would love to hear the price range. Many Thanks

They get absolutely huge! and they grow quickly as well. However they do burn well :)
If the tree chopper is going to quote alot for the wood to be removed, you can usually get it taken away as firewood on freecycle.
Maybe you could either ask him to chip the rest (then stick it in a corner for a while, then use it as a mulch) or take the smaller branches away, whichever is cheapest.

Lee pm me where you are, I wouldn't say no to a load of wood :D

  • had our ecualyptus chopped down yesterday. £150.00. considering the quotes given i think i did okay. Have to remove all the wood myself though. But i;ll probabley burn it through the winter saving myself a few quid into the bargain.

    Try ebay.
I have seen a few 99p auctions for trees on there and while some dont sell others can go for a few hundred pounds.

The chances of moving a 50ft eucalyptus are slim but the wood may be of value to someone for either burning on stoves or carving or making a battering ram or something.

Never fails to amaze me what stuff does sell so it may well save you some money.

    Cheers

The wood would be no good to burn for at least 1 year and even then I am not sure it would be good for a log burner, some woods are better to burn that others

Don't worry, you can stool most types and they will re-grow, just don't leave it too long!

But chop it up when its green, or its a nightmare, tough as err........... a very tough thing.

  • Hi
I'm in the process of buying a Wood burning stove (should be next week in fact) and while doing my homework I came across this handy list of woods to burn with short descriptions:

Best I can say regarding getting rid of the tree is try and get in touch with a local Tree surgeon and get at least three quotes and make sure they are insured. The cost may vary and could be more expensive dependant on the location of the tree. If the tree overhangs a neighbours green houses or a road for example, then the job could be more risky which could affect the price.
