  • You want a Laser if it's black and white.

I use a Brother Hl1430 and it's a great little thing. Cheap to run too!
  • If you're not printing colour stuff, a laser will be faster, cheaper to run and quieter too.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it
  • nope, sorry - should have said..

    - it's for letterheads & invoices - lots... about 1000 A4's (in blk/white & colour on each sheet..)

to be printed as quick as poss, mebbe in a 2 day period..
  • Drop the colour if you can...and print them in blk/white OR colour output on the HP710c, (to use the ink up) and reprint through a laser OR a colour laser OR faster colour inkjet from HP.

Note: run a colour-offsetting check on the laser to see if the coloured ink is ok going throught he heated fuser rollers and not smudging.

Yeah, looks like you'll have to spend the extra and get a colour laser. To be honest they're nowhere near as expensive as they used to be. I've no experience of the quality of the lower-end machines mind you.

As everyone else mentions, for speed a colour laser is what you need, have a look at the HP LaserJet range, they start at a good price. The more you pay, the more features and the faster speed you get. They start at a few hundred, but can go up to thousands for advanced workgroup features.

For the quantity of output you mention a laser will be cheaper to run than an inkjet too.
  • If you want to stick with inkjet look at the HP business inkjet range, they are really quick for inkjet and pretty econimical to run with seperate ink tanks and print heads and the ink tanks are huge especially the high capacity black.

As others have said laser is the quickest option especially when your talking 1000 pages in 2 days, your ink costs alone on an inkjet will be stupid. I would normally recomend the cheaper 2000 series HP colour laserjets purchase price of less than £200 now but the quantities your printing you need somthing a little more substantial.

I would look at the HP colour laserjet 4700n it a really well built peice of kit that can take some hammering I sold one to a customer of mine who had been useing business inkjets for a few years and they are so much happier with it. A rough guide to prining costs is about 5p per page, the toners are expensive but you need to remember they claim to print 10000 pages or 11000 for the black toner.

Your current printer your proberlby about 12-14p per page. has it started to leak ink all over the place? thats what normally happens with that printer and its family everything turns green inside and under it due to the waste ink trap filling up.

The 4700n is expensive to buy but will proberbly pay for itself within 1 maybe 2 sets of toner carts due to the saveings you will make on printing costs. by expensive Im talking £1000+ but other customers that have had the heavy duty hp printers still have them and they still work without prblems as long as they keep feeding them with toner and paper.
  • If it's a one off, maybe worth considering just placing an order at a copy shop?

Even if it isn't a one off, it might be more economical to order custom letterhead-ed A4 paper (assuming that's where the colour is,) in bulk, and a cheap black and white laser printer for the main text of each page. That's what my work used to do.

Get a few quotes from your local print shop. They will be glad of the business and you wont have the hassle of sevicing what could be an expensive printer.
