Confused

Anyone has used the "entitledto.co.uk" calculator?
My circumstances show a £80 a week housing benefit, and my local councill did tell me that i'm only eligible for no more than £20 a week.
This is only a estimated as i haven't move yet to the property.
A bit confused????

Have you done a Google search for Housing Benefit Calculator this will bring up several more. If you enter you details in a couple of them and consistently get the same result then you must ask you local council to explain their calculation. They do sometimes make mistakes.

There may however be reasons such as the size of the property that mean all of the rent cannot be considered eligible.

This should be set out on your pre-tenancy determination. However, the last one I saw was so badly laid out that I had to phone to get it explained (and i thought I was OK with housing benefit gobbledegook).

Possible factors include you being 'overhoused', the rent being above the local reference rent, you being under 25 (restricted to single room), not putting savings into the web calculator. Oh, and straightforward !!!!-up by the HB department!

This site just edited my last sentence, automatically. Very neat.
  • I personally don't think entitledto.co.uk is always right, according to that we should get a lot more benefits than what we do (CTC, WTC, HB & CTB, the latter 2 we get nothing from at the moment) but we have made enquiries about 5/6 times this year & been told all our benefits are correct :-(
