Do I have to tell my landlord I am pregnant?

I have been renting for just over 7 months and so far have had no problems with my landlord.
I found out I was pregnant on Boxing day, and have just told family etc. Do I have to tell my landlord?
Thanks

Is there anything in your contract that says "no children"? Is being pregnant going to prevent you paying the rent?

So long as you keep paying your rent and there's no clauses in your contract about children living in the property, then there shouldn't be a problem.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
  • Thanks pinkshoes,
The rent will still get paid and no clauses in the contract!

Well considering the landlord is a landlady then it would be a miracle!!

If you read your lease agreement, I think you will find that all persons residing at the property who have attained the age of 16 years, must be listed on it. If that is the case he does not need to know. Obviously it would b advisable to tell him prior to the arrival, but if you see him every now and again, i'm sure he will guess that you are 'in the family way'.
I don't know what type of accommodation you live in. But is it child friendly?
Are the walls made of paper, will other tennents complain?
    Good luck.

I think it will be find hun.. these things happen and we can't stop living our lives just because we rent and not own. I remember having the exact same worries trying to find a place to rent when I was 4 months pregnant. When I asked the LA (who was the LA for the house I ended up living in for nearly 3 years) if it was ok that I was pregnant, he just laughed and said 'we do allow babies you know'. I felt dumb asking the question, like a baby can wreck a house, but I know so many stupid rules and regulations are put on tenants that we dont' feel we can live our lives to the full

Just check, but I am sure you will be fine. It would be a ruthless hard-hearted LL that says no!

Edited to say 'congratulations' and enjoy your pregnancy.

Yes, I got pregnant since living here, but didn't tell my landlady, as I didn't feel it was any of her business (and kids definitely allowed as had 2 already!). When the baby was born, she sent me a congratulations card though - the neighbours, who had obviously spotted it (I didn't tell them either!) must have mentioned it to her.

If you're a reliable tenant, the landlord won't care - babies don't actually create any mess. Can't do that till they're toddlers...... ;)
  • Thank you all for helping me out, I feel at ease now!
I have to phone them tomorrow about a broken fence and a damp patch so I guess I can kill two birds with one stone.
    Thanks again.

The walls are made of brick thank God, but I know what you mean. The neighbours are lovely and the walls are not too thin and as to child friendly well it is a normal house, so I guess it will be fine.
    Thanks for the advise.
