People often give away free Sky boxes on Freecycle, might be worth asking

Hi gf, it's amazing how just by looking at things in fine detail (and with great advice from these wonderful people) you can save soooo much money without it affecting your lifestyle.:D

I have had a separate account for my bills since leaving school at the grand old age of 16 and some 27 years later still follow the same rule. An amount goes across by sto every payday and I have no worries about bills not being paid. It has worked for me all this time and I would advocate it to everyone - couldn't do it any other way.

Anyway, your thread has inspired me to take a look at my outgoings and see if they can be cut back at all. I notice you say that sky BB is not up to much. Am currently thinking of switching to sky BB, but maybe will think again!! Good luck in your quest to have more disposable income each month.:D
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:

I remember the first time we sat down and did the Martin's money check. In that first day we saved thousands a year. Because we had discovered by just how much our endowment was going to fall short we decided to overpay by the max our deal would let us and try to save extra. The last thing we wanted was a mortgage after we were 60.

We did the lot. Changed suppliers, insurances, stopped sky and bought a freeview box, cut down the (huge) food budget by more than half - what a culture shock that was!

Now four years down the line we have adjusted and because we never went back to our old ways we are saving money for our retirement in a year. To say it changed our lives would be an understatement. We paid our mortgage and because of the overpayments we had money to come back.

I think, after my own experience, I would cut back to the bone. It is the only way to get rid of debt quickly and to get a bit in the bank to pay for the things you really want - and the feeling of smugness is intoxicating!

We cut out all things that were not necessities. The question we asked ourselves was - is this essential to maintain life? If the answer was no - it went!

That's exactly what I do. I'm surprised more people don't do it. It makes things so much easier - great if you're lazy/disorganised like me!
