2002 Peugeot 1.4HDI

I drive a 2002 Peugeot 1.4HDI, I have this car from 10k Miles, I have now accumulated 75K Mileage, I get my car regularly serviced with a small garage, the Car has always went very well, and still is, except this last few weeks there is a ticking noise coming from the Head of the Engine, which seems to be getting louder as the days pass, I was onto my own garage, he done a quick check, and he thinks it my be the Hydraulic Tappets, my Garage is booked up for the next few weeks, and so I am wanting to know has anybody come accross this before, Is it serious, can It cause damage, or should I drive this car less until my Garage can take in for Inspection/repair.

By the way the Car is still going well except for the Ticking.

Would be grateful for any comments.

There seems to be an issue with some Ford Fiestas etc, fitted with the same engine, and the problem seems to be the diesel injector seals. Click here for more info.

If its the tappets i wouldnt worry to much about it,just wait to get them done at your favourite garage.
if like diesel glider says it is the injector seals (without reading his link) it may get harder to start,or possibly even leak diesel.
i dont think it will do any unrepairable damage.

Pray it isn't injectors - modern high pressure direct injection diesel engines run at very high pressures; ie in the region of 1300 bar! That makes them very expensive to replace!

(2 bar is what you might have your tyres at - 29PSI)
