    Hey you guys...
Hope everyone is well this afternoon! Just wanted a bit of advice really...was thinking about picking up a Slow Cooker, but it just me and the little one at home. She is 10 years old, so doesn't eat a full adult portion yet. Is it worth getting one? I suppose I could freeze the left overs, but I only have a small freezer too? I work all day 8:30am-5pm so can't start cooking till I get in, usually around 6:30pm by the time we have walked home. That means the food would be put on before I leave for work, which is about 8am...that's an awful long time; can the cooker be left on for so many hours?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance,
    Luv the Kebabmeister x

    Hi donner_kebab,

It sounds like a slow cooker would be ideal for you and would save a bit of time in the evenings. It will be fine to be left on low for that length of time. Some of them have timers and keep warm options if you don't want it to cook for so long.

You could go for a smaller one (usually 3.5ltrs) and you don't have to fill it right up. Sometimes If I have leftovers from a slow cooker meal I thicken it up and put it in a pie the next night rather than freezing or could you take leftovers to work for lunch the next day?

    Hope this helps.

Just two of us and I put potatoes and any vegetables in the sc with the meat and leave all day and its ideal, one pot cooking plus the inside of the slow cooker is very easy to wash :)

definately get a slowcooker. its so nice opening my front door and walking in after a long day to the smell of a hearty home cooked meal and knowing all you have to do is serve it up. i hated having to come home and then cook cos all i wanted to do was flake out in a chair. it is much much cheaper than putting your oven on as well and you could freeze half for the next week too :j :j
proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance! :p

  • I bought the smaller size Tefal 3-in-1 slow cooker/rice cooker/steamer from Lakeland and it has been great for cooking for 1 with plenty left to freeze. So simple, even I can use it.

  • Donner-kebab just got an e mail from Tesco and the deal of the day is an electric steamer or slow cooker for £13.97

I'd go for it, there are only two of us here and I use mine a lot. As pink winged says, you don't have to fill it to the brim if you don't have room for the leftovers. I usually make enough for us both to have a meal and then take a portion to work next day for my lunch.

if your doing a packet mix in it such as a chilli or a sausage casserole reduce the water u use to make it as it'll create its own steam and be more watery
