Yes I got this also today. Went through the application last weekend and used a linked account which was paperless so they wanted a statement from another account which did offer statements. I hadn't got round to sending this off so now won't need to bother.

Did the email say "Just give us the money - NOW!" If so, be afraid. Be very afraid! :)

Yup, I've just had a paper copy of statement arrive through (had to order it, nominated account was paperless).

And just had an email yesterday welcoming me on board. Ho hum.

I got an email with my account number and sort code yesterday, must admit I find it a bit strange they haven't asked for any ID.

You probably have given them enough for their needs without realising it.
Name, Address, length of time at this address - makes Electoral Roll check possible.
Details of another bank account - enables them to get a level of verification from that other bank.
Possibly you gave them other info e.g. passport number, driving licence number.

More and more, verification will be electronic - it is cheaper and easier for the banks.
(And - they can argue - satifies their money laundering requirements.)
Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.
