  • Hi,

I would say to OH it's too late. The wheels have been set in motion so to speak and there's no going back. If you were to force the situation to stay in your current job, I wouldn't have thought that job would be very secure and so the risk of no job at all would be far worse. You don't want to stay in your current job and your current boss doesn't want you to stay, and that situation would be horrible to work in!

I would say, go to the new job, make a really good impression, be really positive and then let them know as soon as is suitable that you are looking for any opportunity to increase you hours... You never know what extra work they might be able to find you. But I would leave this until you've started and shown them you're worth it :D :T

In the meantime, having a bit more time at home and less time commuting (with all the stress that brings!) might mean you have more energy to give to money saving / creative money making?? I don't have any amazing suggestions here, but I'm sure you could come up with something!

Could you share childcare with someone else i.e. you look after their child when they work and swap when you work, therefore saving costs? Mind you, I always thought this would be a great idea, but never did it myself!!

    It'll all work out :D

Having been in a horrible job myself, I know how you must be feeling. I quit my full-time salaried job as I just couldn't take it any more, went part-time hourly-paid with an agency, and whilst we had to make some cuts financially, it was the best thing I could have done for myself and DH in terms of our stres levels and general happiness (even meant I was relaxed enough to finally get pregnant - we'd been trying for ages with no joy before).

I'd say take the leap and go to the new job - it's too late not to anyway in reality.

On a money side - Sky is high and you should be able to cut it, and with your LO being so young, you could afford to stop the savings for now (just keep a note of it and pay it back with interest when money is better - that's what we've done).

I can wholly understand the formula issue - DS1, especially, was a very hungry baby and could go through 2 packs of Aptimil a week at the height. Unfortunately there's no cutting that bill, but you could possibly save on the nappies and definitely on baby food. Home made is the best way - that way you're not using any more than normal (to my shame, didn't discover this until DS3 - when I think of how much Cow& Gate took from us with the other two  ). If, for whatever reason, you don't want to do HM food, then take a look in Instore/Poundstretcher (is there still one in the centre?) - I noticed the other day that our branch had loads of half-price but well dated baby food. Also, if the cheap shop by the Haymarket ramp is still there (not been into the centre for ages) they used to have some good baby food reductions.

Why will your child tax credit be going down if you're going to be earning less? Have you told them this?

Probably the wee one will be turning one. Child Tax Credit reduces after child turns a year.
  • Hi,

Thanks for all of your replies.

Tax credits will be going as he turns 1. Not that I understand tax credits when I told them that my wages had gone from full to part time they reduced them then as well. I am hoping that whenever they do the renewal pack I might get a lump sum in back pay. Though I might be being neive with that thought!!

I do as much home cooked food for him as I can, I have just spent the last 2+ hours doing it, but he is so hungry I can't keep up with him so he as a mix of jars as well. Thanks Earthmother I will check the poundshops

The same happened to me, I was in a job I hated and had a really hard time in. I didn't go out drinking etc. Was trying for 6 months to get pregnant, the weekend I left I got pregnant!!

Slice of the pie isn't for me I have looked into it but I;m not really into music so I don't think I would be of much help to people!!

I do survey's but I don't seem to get much for doing them.

Childcare is an issue, one day a week DS goes to my in laws, however I don't want to increase the hours he is there, 1 I don't think its fair on them, 2 they work so it would mean amending there hours and childcare 3 I need to keep my childminder on side, as I live in a catchment area for a very bad school, to have any chance of my DS going to the neighbouring good school I have to have a childminder in there catchment area.
