Is it ok to use....

out of date eggs? they are dated the 25th...........wondered if there were any uses rather than throwing them out?
if they are likely to make us ill though i'd rather throw them!!
if they are any good to use some good ways of putting them to use would be appreciated.

Personally I'd use them and OH has eaten some a week over their use by - it's only a guide, anyway.

However, a good way to test if they're "ok" is to put them in a bowl of water - if they rise to the surface then they're "off" and if they stay at the bottom/in the middle they're ok to use.

There was a great link posted recently that had a link to a site that had pictures of eggs at various ages both floating, or not, and in a puddle after cracking but I can't remember where it is.

Does anybody know where it is please?

If you're very concerned...then I would use them for a cosmetic - look for face mask and hair treatment recipes (if you go for the latter make sure you use a cool rinse  !)

Personally I would crack them open and if they look and smell OK use them in something where you'll cook them properly like a bake or a cake...but it's your decision after all and if you're not confident that they are OK it isn't really worth the risk to your nerves wondering if every gurgle and twinge is somethin' narsty coming on :D

just eat them, eggs last for months in the fridge, as long as they look okay inside they're fine.

My OH is always a bit reluctant to use them - but I always do and have suffered no side effects.

When you crack them open, do it into a cup, each one on its own. You will soon know if they are ok to use or not!

I saw that the other day on your Indexed collections thread, silly you to forget. I never knew you could do that.. to test the freshness of an egg.
