Hi folks,
I've been at my mum's today, and she's asked me to ask for your advice! The inside of her teapot is caked with years worth of tea-stained limescale, and she wants to know how to get it gleaming again. She tried various places - Kleeneze, etc - who used to do stuff for just this problem, however apparently as with so many things "there's no call for it these days" as people don't use teapots any more!
She's going to write to Lakeland to ask them to stock such a product, but in the meantime is there some magic technique with bicarb & vinegar to sort it out?

It's a china teapot so can't be boiled up on the hob with vinegar which is what Mum says she would do if it was a metal one.
Any suggestions welcome!

ok this may or may not lead to help. I used to work in a hotel and we had a powder you put in the teapot, filled with water and left it for 10 mins or so and it would come up nice and spotless. but can i remember the name of it? Not a hope! It came in a tub kind of like vanish, and it was bright pink. So if anyone knows the name of it - get that
failing all else ring the Culloden Hotel in n.ireland and ask to be put through to housekeeping and ask them lol0 -
Don't leave my teapot that long Rzl:rotfl: I tend to do mine on a sort of weekly basis:D I put a good cupful of soda crystals in it topped up with boiling water, and left for an hour or two. Give it a scrub with the dishwashing brush and comes up lovely:D Think your mum may need to do this more than once, but I'm pretty sure soda crystals will win out in the end;)You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0

Better not let my OH read this thread. He says you ruin the teapot by washing off the tannin stains, its almost like seasoning a wok according to him!
I don't think he ever forgave me for putting his teapot in the dishwasher when we first got together :rotfl:0 -

I have always just soaked mine overnight in bleach and cold water. Give it a VERY good rinse in the morning and make sure especially that the spout gets a grood rinse. You'll probably see some big brown flakes come out of there.
I keep old toothbrushes for cleaning the teapot too - gets rid of a any persistent bits!;)
I used to help in a charity shop and until I showed them how nicely teapots cleaned up, they used to all get binned!:eek:0
