I am running AVG and it just carried out a test of my computer and came up with a message "Trojan Horse Downloader. Agent. 9. AR"
At the end of the test it just closed down.
What is a trojan horse and what should I do about it?

CLICK HERE for a definition of a trojan.
You should remove it. It could be one of those nasty ones which stops the AV from getting rid, which is why AVG has done nothing. Try downloading and running Spybot S&D, and if that doesn't work...try this:
1. Turn off system restore (right click on my computer>>properties.....click on system restore tab......uncheck the box to enable sytem restore..apply..ok)
2. Reboot to Safe Mode (press F8 when your computer is rebooting, and choose 'Safe mode, withnetwork support')
3. Run AVG and it should then allow you to move the virus to vault.
4. Restart your PC normally, and follow step 1 again to enable system restore.
Hopefully when you rescan, no more trojan!I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

You could download free anti trojan software like the two listed below. Both are free and update on a regular basis. Ewido is a full product for the first 14 days and then returns to a restricted product, still updatable.
Try

I've just discovered a few trojans on my pc by accident - spent 3 days trying to get rid. Assuming it has done what it said it has, the best software I've come across is an online virus checker called bitdefender - before that I had used my own up-to-date virus checker (paid for one!) called EZAntivirus that did spot at least one, but refused to remove, and another online virus checker (can't remember which one now, but it was one of the "big names"), which failed miserably too.
Used bitdefender online and it spotted 3 and removed them all. I have to say I was shocked that I had any, generally I'm very careful with downloads, emails, etc. Grrr.!!
