Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
The code is ZG872 for £30 off £60. I think the code is for first time orders.

Well, I haven't a clue what is going on with Additions, my delivery has not arrived so I have spent ages trying to log on to check why but it says I am giving the wrong details.

So I have dug out the email confirmation and it says it has gone to my OLD address - I never even noticed this as I just filed it for reference.

Now, I have not lived there for 7 months and I've not even entered that address onto the screen, I have a new email address too, the only thing I can think of is that they have picked my NAME up from an old Kays address and then used that address. I never used additions so maybe I registered on the site before but never shopped with them - but how and why the old address?

Either way they have let me use the code as the goods have been charged and then the £30 put back into my account. The only problem is that someone else has them. I suppose this means I have a trip to do to see if the people in the new house have either taken them in or have had them left on the doorstep!!
  • Well, what a nightmare. I used the £30 off code on a new account and it has been sent to the wrong address, I gave my account details and they have this account against the old address, they cannot tell me how or why they have my old address though - is not related to an old Kays account as I thought.

I have been told by Additions to go over to my old address and see if the package has arrived - I was expected to be waiting outside the house until it arrived but I said I could not do that. So I've got my sister to pop a note through the door explaining and asking the new people to call me.

In the meantime I have had to open a new account with a different email address - the new account would not let me use the £30 off code on an order worth £78 though - but the i-coaster has now gone down by £20 to £40 and I've found a code ZG335 for £10 off and I have used this so I am still getting it for the same price. I am happy with that price but not by the way it has been handled by Additions. I just said I wanted the I-coaster and no doubt I'll have to pay the 2 shipping fees for their mess up.

BEWARE OF OPENING MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS AT THE SAME HOME ADDRESS.

I HAVE JUST LOGGED INTO A NEW ACCOUNT OPENED TODAY 12/12/08 AND FOUND THE TRANSACTIONS FROM THE ORDER PLACED ON 8/12/08 (THAT WENT TO THE WRONG ADDRESS) ADDED TO MY NEW ACCOUNT. THE NEW ACCOUNT WAS OPENED WITH A DIFFERENT EMAIL ADDRESS!!!!!! I have emailed to ask what is happening, as soon as I know I'll update. Please be very careful as we know what the Shop Direct Group are like for charging at a later date for misuse of codes.
  • hello, can anyone give me some advice please? This isnt the right place to put this post i dont think, though its connected.

i created an account with additions to get this £30/£60 offer thing, and i never ever use my real details (either name and/or date of birth) purely because i have heard internet scam fraud horror stories. i never do, never think anything of it. anyway, one item of my 3 for 2 purchase has never arrived so i called up today to find out where it was and stupidly, i couldnt remember the d.o.b id put down. they transferred me to the fraud department and because i openly admitted that i didnt use my correct details, they have shut my account down and accused me of fraud!! i am to send back the 2 out of 3 items that i have received and i am barred from ever using them again! to be honest, the woman i spoke to was so unhelpful, after i put the phone down i wanted to cry, so i will never be using them again, but i am worried now about how this data is going to be transmitted to others. what should i do? as far as i was concerned, i thought you could open accounts under any personal details - if it was a bank i could understand, but a shop?

any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have no doubt that they are, but its really not difficult to commit internet fraud if you want to. (har-dee-har-har). oh the irony.

I can understand why they have told you to do that. Should something have hapened such as the parcel getting lost, how do they prove who it was delivered to. Do you sign in your fake name, plus what about your credit card being charged? You would have to tell them your fake name and date of birth should ever you need to claim and then they would not pay out. That is just daft as you are opening yourself to more losses than chances of internet fraud.

There are other ways of people getting your details to commit fraud and changing your name and DOB is not going to make one bit of difference as it is your card details they want - and if YOU can use a fake name and DOB to buy stuff then so can a fraudster - so I really cannot understand why on earth you think using fake details is a good thing to do.

I am guessing that you have to do as they say and return them. There is nothing you can do as you have opened an account in someone elses name so have commited fraud - as you say, the irony. I am not sure what else you want to do to be honest other than do as they say.

Hi Blue Monkey - yes, i think you may well be right on the points you raised. it probably was quite stupid - but its something ive always done and ive never really given it any thought. i never thought it was fraud. i still dont, to be honest. its not like im doing anything wrong - and if my correct personal details are so important to them, why dont they check them before they let me pay for anything? you can give whatever details you want when you stay at a hotel, for example. i know a hotel is a bit different but you are still paying for a product and the company needs your personal details in order to provide you with that product.

my question is more - what am i going to do now? i dont know how they hold this information about me, and who (if anyone) they pass it on to. obviously, additions is marshall ward is empire stores is... but what about other companies? ive never been barred from anything - how does it work?

Shop Direct now own almost every single catalogue name - there are about 18 I think, the exceptions I can think of are Freemans, Kaleidoscope, La Redoute.

To be honest I cannot see they are going to pass the information on. I used to use Kays for buying sale stuff for my business and I had a long outstanding debt from Littlewoods from years ago that was on repayments. Anyhow, when Kays merged with Littlewoods my credit with Kays went from £4k to £0 and I asked why and they told me it was because of the debt to Littlewoods and that (I quote) 'they owned all the catalogue companies now and I would never be able to buy anything from any of them again'. The woman on the phone was rude, obnoxious and not at all pleasant - I think we spoke to the same person.

A few months on I got offered a discounted rate for settlement and it was low so I took it and paid up the debt so the account was clear, but I was never allowed credit again so I called them and asked them to cancel my account.

But I can still buy stuff from them - as I have proved this week. And at the last address I put stuff in my husbands name from Littlewoods Direct if I want anything. So I think they are trying to scare you in all honesty, you've not got a record as they have not told the police so who can they tell? You have not defaulted on anything - so what's to prove Littlewoods are telling the truth. They are lying to scare you - as they did me.

However, I do think that you should avoid giving false inforation for the future, say you was to buy something expensive and then try to claim it back on your card you may not be able to if you have given false details. I process credit cards for my business and all I need is a card number and an expiry date to be able to fraudulently process payments through so the name address, DOB etc... has nothing to do with it at all. I can even do it without the 3 digit number on the back but I get charged a higher merchant rate. The account details are used to verify who you are as they have to comply with the DPA so that people cannot call up pretending to be you to get (for example) your address changed and then buy loads of things and do a runner with the stuff. They are protecting their business as well. I'd take no notice, give it 6 months and shop again - or ask someone if they can buy the stuff for you and pay them instead. :)

ETA: If you want to give it a try, order again using a new credit card and email adress but use your correct details as they are notoriously bad and I've had to call loads of times, plus it is helpful to get into the system to see where your orders are. Did you have to give the right details to them in the end so do they ave your correct name? Give it a go and see what happens, what is the worst they can do? Not send it? If they charge you then go to your card company and say you have been charged for items not received and you'll get your money back.
  • i have accounts in my name and oh's name for empire stores and we both got sent the £30 off £60 spend codes so i used them both but when i sign in to my account it shows the orders i did on my oh's account too, and we are still waiting for the £30 to be credited to my bank account for the order on my oh's account, so i dont know if i will get it as it looks like i have used the same code twice on one account even though i didnt.

i hope that makes sense! its really wierd - maybe its because i paid on the same card, or because the address is the same?
