BMW MINI - Power Steering Pump - Danger?
Comments
-
I have a One 04 and the power steering pump failed. I sent MINI UK a message on facebook telling them i didn't want to embarrass them on facebook and I know that they are responsible for this and i want them to do something about it. Next day they called me up telling me they have contacted the manager of my local BMW service centre and they want me to come in. They gave me a reference number and told me that if it was the pump they will pay for all of it.
Gave them my car, walked out. Next day they phoned me saying it's ready. Bused it there, got my keys, picked it up and off I went. Didn't pay a penny.
Got to be blunt with them sometimes.
I've been writing letters back and forth to VOSA (DVSA) telling them that even though MINI seem to have covered themselves, why have they recalled cars in the past with exactly the same problem but not THIS one.
Let's see what they have to say for themselves:rotfl:

My wife's 2004 mini cooper also suffers from this problem. I have found that it appears to be caused by the software in the management system. To overcome it the microprocessor, or whatever it is, requires re-booting, this can be done by disconnecting the battery, count to ten, re-connect the battery. I have found that the problem occurs if the steering it put on extreme lock (left or right) but it could occur for other reasons I do not know. The pump is not faulty.
If this is true for all other Mini's then Mini (B.M.W.) is either misguided or not being honest. By the way it is dangerous especial when it occurs as you pull out in to a busy road, as happened to my wife0 -

Of course it was over dramaticised but the gist is that if you are a celeb you will get a fix and if not then sod off.0 -
