B&Q instore pricing sucks!!!!

Just a rant!

I spent half a day in Ikea looking for a drawer unit. Found just the one I wanted and went down to collect only find a gloriously empty pallet :(

After that disappointment I went into B&Q.

On the display was a 4 drawer chest, underneath the shelf with the fully built example on was the flat pack boxes labelled Box 1 of 2 and Box 2 of 2

The shelf between the two had the price Nevada 4 Drawer Chest Walnut Effect £39.99each

It wasn't exactly what I was looking for but for £40 I thought I would get it.

When I get to the checkout he asked for £79.98

How can they quote £39.99 for a 4 drawer cabinet but only supply the cabinet OR the drawers for £39.99?????

The online price does say £79.98 so why can't the instore price??

I didn't buy it! I would have felt ripped off everytime I looked at it.
Bunch of crooks!!

I did think I had picked up 2 of them even though the boxes were different sizes, weights.

The boxes definitely said Box 1 of 2 and Box 2 of 2 though.
  • I agree with you there Chri5. I went to buy a new sink unit and saw exactly the right one on display for £75. Couldn't see any, so I asked at the customer service desk who advised me that they didn't stock it and therefore it was only available for home delivery for an extra £5. arrgghhhhhh!!!!
    I argued and got nowhere!

Misleading the customer in my opinion.
  • there should of been a handwritten pos on the unit saying £79.98 if it was a handwritten pos saying £39.99 then you could of argued for it at price although as im sure your aware they still wouldn't have to but probably would out of good will.
the units do have to be split into 2 as they are too heavy otherwise and as they are technically 2 seperate products(i.e different contents in the boxes) they also need seperate barcodes obviously splitting the cost between the boxes makes the most sense.
not condoning it as it is confusing just explaining it.

There was no handwritten notes anywhere. The fully built unit was too high to reach.
The price label was a proper printed label.

I understand the barcodes being different for each box but IMO it is totally wrong to price component parts individually.

Never have I bought flat pack furniture and had to pay for each box individually

Still don't know why it annoyed me so much lol!

Could the "Box 1 of 2" sticker be from a customer order or the delivery?
I have always found flatpacks to come in one box only.

This unit definately comes in 2 separate boxes, as mentioned above it is because it is too big & heavy to fit into 1. This is the same with 12ft trampolines B&Q sell, you have to buy box 1of2 & 2of2 to get the complete item, and both boxes are priced separately although it should have a total price displayed as well.
