I've mentioned this before on previous threads.
A dodgy seller could send you a faulty MP3 player and he/she will only be obliged to refund the item cost not postage - so beware!!

As I said above a paypal chargeback includes the post and packing from the seller to the buyer as well. If a claim is made that an item is faulty then the buyer has to send the item back at their own cost, but paypal will refund the whole of the original amount paid.

Obviously if you don't use paypal and are relying on the sellers terms and conditions then yes, they may well limit the buyer to just the cost of the item only and you would then need to fight it out with ebay.

It also saves buyer VAT and customs charges if coming from overseas. You pays your money and takes your chance!!

These sales suit me fine, I just ensure that I check their feedback carefully!!

Agreed, feedback tells you a lot if you read it, even positives can make interesting reading.

It never ceases to amaze me to see sellers with really low feedback still attracting bids.

After my standard ebay response, I have now be asked to complete a feedback survey and give my opinions - I don't supose that ebay will actually take any notice.

  • To be fair though would you complain if the start price was £20 with £3.95 postage ? It's a good way to avoid having to pay extra fees to EBay. As long as read the details and know the postage rate whats the problem ?

Sometimes, you want to buy something that is at a very good price ending in a minutes time where you can't read all the detail

You want to know the important info like condition, any problems and total cost to me

MP3 player for £0.01. So it costs £20 to get it here. That makes £20.01, and the seller doesn't get ripped off by eBay fees.
Can you get one on your high street for that price? 'cos I know I can't ;)
And can the seller operate a shop in the high street for the price of eBay fees? I don't think so.

I don't know why so many people see the need to assert that eBay fees are a "rip off". eBay are as successful as they are because they are a very useful service for both buyers and sellers - and I have no axe to grind for them. Fee avoidance is simply fraudulent and nothing to be proud of.
