Tiscali Rip Off?

Options
I am currently on £24-99 per month 512 broadband no limit with Tiscali. Having been informed by them that I was going to be upgraded to 1Mb free of charge. As this hasn't happened I checked Tiscali web site to find that NONE of their packages now cost £24-99. In fact 512 package now costs £14-99 but has a 30Gb download limit. Apparently ALL Tiscali packages now have a download limit which has not been notified to existing customers or to be precise to me. I have checked with Tiscali sales and basically they have said that the upgrade was withdrawn and they had hoped customers would visit the website and notice the changes. I wonder how long they would have let me continue to pay £24-99 for something that is now £14-99?
Finally their 1Mb package has only a 2Gb download limit, wonder how many existing customers on that package are aware of the change?

I'm with Tiscali and have been for a while ... all through the regrading that you are talking about Kacuk.
I opted to do the upgrade myself rather than wait for the automatic upgrades, but I did keep an eye on the website as it seemed to change on a regular basis with the packages they were offering.
I ended up on the 512 / £15.99 package (even tho the actual speeds i get seem pretty much the same as when i was on 256!)
As I havent visited the website for a while, I've just been there and now I'm only offered a 1Mb or 2Mb package (at 15.99 or 17.99).

I really wanted to do 2 things with this post
    1) thank the original poster for reminding me to check the tiscali site as I may now be able to get a faster connection for the same price
    2) raise a little more awareness into how bad Tiscali are... it really wouldnt have taken them long to send out an email letting ppl know what this weeks packages are, would it?

how did you try to do it online? all i do is go to the upgrade section of my account and choose the one i want, this normally shows the new price upgrades too.

although i've just checked and they've changed it to some naff layout where i can upgrade from 512k to 512 with cheap phone calls. Can't upgrade to 1mb or anything, unless they know my line won't accept it

I've had a right game with them recently.

First there was a line fault, rectified within 24 hours - superb service,

Then the last two months I've been paying £24.99 when I was on the 1mb 2GB limit at £15.99. Trying to get the money back from the Asian call centre (sales is UK staff) is nigh on impossible.

Then with them announcing 2mb for £19.99 I wanted that. Couldnt swap it over as their site was playing up. The sales line couldnt do it either.

When it was finally working again, only options were with SmartTalk included, no broadband only. Again sales couldnt sort this out.

Finally got onto one without it, then got a letter saying I'd hooked upto SmartTalk too!!!!

Looked into this and have decided to give this SmartTalk thing a trial. £25/month for 2mb Broadband capped at 30Gig and free anytime calls everyday to landlines (not inc mobiles and premium rate). Line rental still payable to BT. Barred all numbers myself to Premium numbers and told everyone not to phone mobiles unless absolutely neccessary.

Hopefully this will reduce our quarterly phone bill significantly.

Get rid of Tiscali, terrible service, i used them once 12 months later they started taking money from me without my permission, it wasnt even the cost of the internet service, just random amounts. try https://www.adslguide.org and note tiscali's rating!!

    Hi,
Have now upgraded? my account. It seems, according to Tiscali - I cant have 1 Mb service so I now have the 512 service with 30Gb download / month plus the Anytime Saver phone deal - all calls to 01 & 02 numbers free at all times. (there are too many 0845 and 0870 numbers). The price for the combined package is £19-99 being broken down to £15-00 for the broadband and £4-99 for the Anytime Saver which normally costs £9-99.
The most irritating points are - Not being told of the package changes, the implimentation of a download limit without being told and what I see as the main package (1Mb) only has 2 Gb download / month but I cant have it anyway, apparently, others watch out as Tiscali will charge for the excess and if you overrun the limit too high - will suspend the account. (see their fair usage paragraph)

  • Thanks for that info everybody. I have been waiting patiently on Tiscali coming through with their promise of a 1 mb service and then i thought "Wait a minute how much doies it cost to upgrade to 1 mb"? I was paying £19.99 for 512 kb. Well you all know the answer. And off course Tiscali have renaged on their offer without actually telling anyone.

I did a quick check of Tiscali France to see what was being offered there. Would you believe 15 Euros for an 8 mb connection!!!

I have let off some steam e-mailing Tiscali with some will considered observations but all I expect in reply is some bland comment about taking control of my own account. Why do we put up with it?
