Cleaning cooker problem

Can anyone suggest anything that will clean the top of my fathers electric cooker? He has a build up of food spills on it and I have tried all sorts of stuff to get it off and at least look clean. Its one of the ones that kinda heat up below the surface.

Cheers
Kate

My wife uses a cleaner available from comet. Its for cleaning ceramic hobs & it comes up like new.
  • i have a stainless steel hob and various other stainless steel items i used to use a special cleaner for stainless steel items i purchased from the hotpoint mechanic but now i have bought a hand held steam ckeaner and it is a lot better not using any chemicals just water and it stops my excema getting bad and sabves money in the long run it was under £35 from qvc hope this info helps. Plus you can use the steam cleaner in other parts of the house like the bathroom etc..

When we got our ceramic hob I started by using HobBrite on it - which is great as long as you have the patience to make sure every last trace of it is rinsed off, otherwise it leaves white streaks. I haven't used it in ages though, cos I've discovered that white vinegar diluted half and half with water in a spray bottle is just as effective and leaves the hob nice and shiny as well. You do, however, have to spray it liberally on anything stubborn and leave it for a good while before you wipe it off.

The handheld steam cleaners are a good idea too - we've got one, though I must admit by the time I've got it out of the cupboard, filled it with water and plugged it in, I could have already used the vinegar solution and be finished.
