Electricity: £40 for 9 DAYS!!??
We moved into this open plan 1 bedroom cottage a few months ago.
We switch to TV off completely when we don't watch it, heat the place with the woodburning stove, don't even leave the microwave on standby etc.
Scottish Power have just sent us a bill saying we've used £40 worth of electricity in 9 days and £120 in a month!!!:eek::eek:
The guy came round to read the meter only last week. We read the meter when we moved in and gave them the reading.
Surely this can't be right??
If it is, we're going to have to move or us candlelight. Seriously.

Is this bill based on actual or estimated readings? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

The OP says that the meter was read last week.
Are the readings on the bill correct? How many units have you used?
Is there a standing charge? If not, it is normal for the first batch of units to cost more so you may have been charged at a high rate - yo may effectively have paid the standing charge for three months in 9 days.
If you have a standing charge, have they charged for three months standing charge in advance?

How many units have you actually used and what rates do you pay?
We have a 7 bed house with 7 kids (some fostered) all leaving Phone & DS chargers plugged in all the time and pay about £80 pcm (Gas Central Heating, Gas Hob, CFL & LED Lighting throughout and we have 5 bye-bye standby thingys)
It MAY be worth checking that there are no cables running to next door - my MIL was living in a brand new block of "old folks" flats and paying a massive bill for ages before they realiased she was paying the power bill for about 8 flats!0 -
How do you heat water. Do you have an immersion heater that's left on.0

Turns out they've helped themselves to what they consider to be the average consumption for 3 months but laid out the bill so it says it's for 2nd-9th feb.
i'm angry bc the bill is misleading - seriously anyone elderly would have a heart attack getting that bill. NOWHERE on the bill does it say it's for the 3 months. We had to call up to be told that when we had to call their (not freefone) number!"Finish each day And be done with it.
