Worked out our new weekly budget

yeah we manage that and were a family of four.
I generally shop weekly as DH gets paid weekly. We spend just over £30 per week on food, nappies, toiletries, cat food etc. and £20 per week on petrol, and about £5 - £10 per month on clothes, and shoes for the kids, which includes the odd toy / puzzle, £3 per week on activities for the kids (this has drastically reduced recently). All that is under £70 and I cant think what else you need to cover.
Admittedly I do put a lot of time and effort into keeping my food bill down, by going into town most days when I pick DS up from school and buying all the reduced items.0 -

OK... Car insurance seems high? I have a Mini Cooper 54 plate and just got quotes for it to be insured for work use (which I guess your OH has to too?) and 20,000 miles per year, fully comp, curt car, low voluntary excess and I managed to get it for just over £440 per year... That isn't including any cash back. Oh and I have 3 points too (oooops)
Have you tried Martins list of checking insurance prices?
Try threatening Sky with leaving and see if you can reduce the cost... Or get a sky/phone/BB all in one pack if it works out cheaper

the car insurance is higher because my h has only been driving for two years and is still under 25,
we do finish paying that off this month though and can look round for a cheaper quote as he will have 2 years free claims aswell.. so hoping that goes down
it isnt a company car though, its our car but he works for his dad so he has a petrol allowance of £20 a week which is on a company card or somthing!!
our package isnt with sky its a virgin package and its the phone, computer and tv for £30 a month but then with phone calls on top of that i allow about £30
we have just gone onto a different tarrif with virgin though and for an extra £7 all our land line calls are free 24-7 but i dont think that starts until next months bill so that shoudl go down to £37 unless we are ringing mobiles or the bank etc0 -
Hello I'm a new debt free wannabe,
I want to pay off a mortgage in 5 years (fingers crossed) - £35k left. We're trying to be good but I notice we spend about £450 a month on food, washing powder, nappies etc and ..an essential wine.
I see the amounts other people are living within - how are you doing it - what are you eating?
We are not overly lavish..but I would find life too miserable if I didn't have a nice dinner.
We cook mostly from scratch and make our lunches for work ..so maybe 450 isn't so bad - what do you think? I need instruction.
thanks :A0
