Does Being In Debt Ever Just Get To You?

I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself this morning and need a bit of a rant. Does it ever just get to you being in debt:confused: Its a nice morning here, I'd love to take the kids a walk to the shop and buy them a packet of sweets and myself a newspaper, I can't even afford a newspaper let alone the sweets, hell I can't even afford the a stamp to request my CCA.

I'm the only guy at work who can't afford the 40p to get a cup of coffee in the morning, or who can't afford to get a carryout from the chip shop on a Friday, Its just simple basic things like this I can't afford.

Do you ever think to yourself what is the point in working, you work 40 hours a week for what? You can do nothing only sit in the house at the weekend.

Grrrrr.

Tell me about it! Been there got the t shirt.
How about putting up your SOA to see if we can help with the budget?
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

  • I've been there....sometimes it all does get too much. Big hugs to you. All I can say is that it WILL get better, just keep at it. Everyone needs a moan now and again and this is one of the wonderful things about this board that you can just do that when you need to!
Why don't you do some baking with the kids - buiscits are really easy and then take what you made and the kids off to the park? That way you are getting to do something free with the kids but are still having fun. What about going to the local library and having a look at the newspaper? Again you could take the kids for something free for them to do.

I hope you start to feel a bit more positive soon,

I think alot of people totally know how you feel, but at least you're trying to deal with your debt...
Maybe the people who always buy coffee in the morning will be on here in 6 months or so, but in the meantime are living with their head in the sand.

So many people are in debt now, you seriously won't be the only one at work in debt, but perhaps you're the only one thats realised.

Hope you start to feel better soon...xx

  • aww hugs for you! Yes it does get a bit much sometimes and does feel lile youre walking a treadmill for nowt! Not sure how long you'll be here for but feel free to join us on the long haulers thread (I'll be here for about 7 years!! at least!!) for some encouragemet.
There are things you can do do to help. Being innovative with the free time - find things locally you can do for free; museums, libraries & parks are great! Having some treat money in the budget - even if its just £5 family treat and using things like tesco vouchers for days out, mags etc make a difference. Yo could see if you have a toy library locally too as they help! Dont know how old your kids are?
I also have an allotment which keeps me out of mishief & is great for recycling (ie skip diving!) and a great way of growing your own veg, having days out in the summer & spending time with like minded people. You can have a lovely day out every week all for a flask of tea & a pack of sandwiches!!
Using surveys brings in extra cash that can be used for treats....monotonious but does make a difference. Entering comps can be good & sending from freebies. Going to old style boards for good food options that are cheap ...will see if I can find your soa to offer any assistance.
Hope that helps? Ultimately it IS tough but togeather we'll make it!

One thing I noticed with the guys at work was they where either on a big wage or there partner was, Just listening to them talk in the canteen annoys you, all they have to worry about is wether to buy an LCD TV or Plamsa, Or and 80GB DVD recorder or a 160GB.

True, but is that on credit?

The way I think now is that it doesn't matter how much you earn its how you spend it.

A friend of mine on a very high wage confessed to me the other day that he was £70000 in debt apart from his mortgage. He was devastated that he had to sell his TVR car.

So all the while I was jealous of his wages and lifestyle, it wasn't any better, if not worse than mine, and I earn pennies! :o

I think your right, I know quite a few people who have the best of everything and it baffles me how they afford it, they have to be in debt, While I have about £15k of debt it could be worse, I could have £70K, I think if I had £70K I would leave the country and not come back for a very long time

  • What gets me down is no-one else seems worried about the amount of debt they have and look down on those of us trying to get debt free. I waste over £200 a month on debt repayments, if I had that in my pocket I could buy loads of stuff for the house and the kids. Some days I could (actualy do) sit crying because the stress gets too much.
