We ordered at Brent Park & the lady there did only identify what we were wanting, from our own plan. She more or less just made sure we had the correct legs/plinths/worktop lengths, rather than checking the design & layout.

Previously they were much more thorogh, but I guess thet plenty people take up their time like this & don't order, so now you do need to use the in-store or on line systems. They wre pretty much what you need, though & doing it at home in lots of different layouts must be better than an hour in the store.

& you can always work out what you want & get MFI/Wickes/B&Q to offer their ideas, plan it (for free) as if you wanted them to quote you.

We have an Ikea kitchen and couldnt fault the quality its fantastic!
  • Yes Joannaclaire - Mark in Croydon definitely helped hugely with the design ... and we spent 45 mins working it all out together, so it's worth you going down there, if its not too much of a trek! I brought along the Wickes one too, but it was only a computer-generated picture of the kitchen we'd have from them. I just measured all the key distances and wrote them on it. When I got Wickes to prepare the plan, I thought I'd go with them -- just changed my mind when I saw Ikea ...

We have a IKEA kitchen at work and its hammered to death and is now 3 years old and still going strong .....

Have you looked at Howden kitchens (we had one from there last year) when we couldn't find a Magnet/Ikea/MFI one that my hubby would accept - he wanted "real" wood.

Yes - another Ikea kitchen fan. We installed one in our last house and it was brilliant. Again it came in a good £500 cheaper than the nearest, which I think was B&Q at the time.

Fitted an Ikea kitchen for a customer last year and compared to fitting a Howdens Kitchen it was a nightmare. As said previously, if services are in place prior to fitting the the base units knowing it will be an Ikea kitchen ( with no void at the back), then its not such a headache.

From the end users perspective, they are great, from the fitters perspective they are not the preferable kitchen to fit.
  • My parents have an IKEA kitchen and it looks great even after many years of use. It looks modern, is very practical and seems to have stood the test of time very well.
