So I've had the double glazing people round...

Options
I didn't even ring the nationals after reading some of the stories on here. So far I've had 2 quotes fpr 3 windows and a front door and a small window on top of the front door.

One at £1700

One at 1450. This one said that all his windows will be 32mm and he doesn't think they'll be any company that will be able to match that price. What do you think?

Why is PRICE the only factor, what about best value?

If you want cheap, go the the states they'll sell you complete windows for $50.....£25! brand new double glazed and utterly worthless in my opinion.

Sure you want a good deal, dont want to be ripped off.....but think about what you WANT first. IS energy saving important....then look for EST recommended A,B,C rated www.bfrc.org lists the companies that have the certificated, www.est.org lists the companies they recommend (difficult site to navigate). Is security important, www.sbd.org will list the companies that have obtained "enhanced" security measures, extra to standard windows, is reputation important, the www.ggf.org lists their members who need three years trading behind them

DONT just decide on price, theres lots of free advice, buyers guides for doouble glazing that help you make a good educated decision.

    good luck

Buying quality goods which last, should be an investment that saves money. :T
Buying cheap products which fail, wastes money and costs twice as much in the long run.

forgot the 32mm probably meant that was their glass unit thickness.....thats irrelevent, what is the energy rating on their product, heat is lost through the frames not just the glass, thats why you need to check www.bfrc.org they list all windows that have been tested, the good and bad!

I would contact a local Trade outlet and get a ruputable Joiner to fit them. The Main heat loss is through the Glass. Providing the Sealed unit inc Glass is between 20mm and 28mm they are fine. I would ask him to supply you with more info.
