WFTC & CTC, income went down so so did benefits - is this right ??

I just worked out that you should be getting roughly £46 per week and from April 2008 about £270
-
I'd say it is right based on my own experience.
I know that when I went from Full time work to part time work, I had a big drop in WFTC and now I'm able to go back full time, my WFTC is increasing again
For me though I was told it's because I'm going into another bracket for working more hours, I wonder if it's the same for you
Hope you get it sorted

trickytrolleys is only entitled to WTC because they work 30 hours or more.
You were entitled to WTC because you have children and were working 16 hours. Once you started 30 hours you were entitled to the 30 hour element of £705 per year.

I phoned the benefits people and told them that i made a mistake and has seriously overestimated my earnings.
My first TC award said £250 p/m when they thought I had earned alot more than I had but when I got the revised award (where I had actually got about £6K less than originally stated my award had reduced to £184 p/m) - i phoned them to query it but they just kept saying it was right, I dont understand how by getting less money in that period can reduce the amount, if anything I would imagine it would have increased - can anybody help me on this please.
Thanks
Hi.
Based on the £2.5k they are assuming you work under 16 hours a week, which means you lose your entire WTC. The reality is you work more than 16 hours, but only worked for 3 months of the year.
I would reinstate the £8k figure, if that's what you will be working next tax year, or get in touch and explain.0 -
she's 10 months old, so i expect the award to decrease again in 2 months.
but for now, surely the award is directly linked to our earnings and it doesn't make sense to me!0 -
You need to ask them for a breakdown of the award. Is it this years award or next years? Please bear in mind that all awards are provisional until your income is confirmed and only then becomes final - thats how we get so many overpayments :rolleyes:Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0

Hi all, thanks for the replies but imstill not too clear about it as Idont see how an incorrect figure supplied for 06/07 managed to have an impact on the award for the 07/08 period which, if im correct is what they base the money I will receive in 08/09.
Further info: I have 1 child and I work 20 hrs a week, this has not changed since the day I started work.

Have you received any unexpected payments that werent paid within your normal schedule? When you make a change of circumstance, the system re-calculates your award and sometimes generates an extra payment - your future payments decrease to balance out your award.0

Pop it all into entitledto.com and see how that comes out? If its significantly different then ring/write to them and tell them you believe they have it wrong and would like it looked at again.0

Ok trickeytrolleys I think I’ve almost got it now.
You have a child 10 months old.
2006-7 you earned £2500.
2007-8 you will earn £8000
You work 20 hours per week (£154)
You are a lone parent
Your Tax Credits for 2007-8 are based on your 2006-7 income of £2500 and consists of:
Child Tax Credit:
Family Element
Family Element Baby Addition
Child Element
Working Tax Credit:
Basic Element
Lone Parent Element
Weekly CTC £56.21
Weekly WTC £65.66
Weekly Total £121.87
************************************************************************
If HMRC have got it wrong and have still got you down as earning £8000 for 2006-7 you TCs for 2007-8 would be:
Weekly CTC £56.21
Weekly WTC £45.99
Weekly Total £102.20
************************************************************************
From April 2008 when your TCs is calculated on 2007-8 income of £8000 and your child is 1 year old (loss of Family Element Baby Addition).
Weekly CTC £45.78
Weekly WTC £45.99
Weekly Total £91.770 -
