What you CAN do is sign yourself of the account at the bank ( I think?).Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0

Change your phone number and mobile number today, atleast they won't be calling you and giving you hassle, and go Ex-directory.
I would walk into the bank with some ID, and as mentioned earlier, raised voices in a pleasant tone can work wonders.

You'd've thought that given the payments can only be cancelled by the ISP account holder, they cannot persue you for the payments as you are not the account holder - write a letter explaining that you don't know where the account holder is and that as it was not set up on your card, you cannot be held responsible for the continued payments.
Also point out that as far as you are aware, payments should not be made from expired cards as this amounts fraud, therefore they are knowingly authorising payments on a card that is not valid.
Report them to OFT, FO and anyone else you can think of and also start a claim for all the payments plus charges.
(no idea if this is correct, just what I'd do!)0 -
The problem is that although the debit card has expired, the account is still open and as such the account is valid. The OP can only talk to the bank and ask what he is supposed to do in this situation - I would have thought he could cancel the direct debit/standing order from hte bank side although not from hte internet side. As he says, all that will happen until it is cancelled that the bank will honour the DD and then charge it and fees to him. Common sense does not apply. Try legal advise if you cannot get sense out of the bank.0

Checked out the Citizens Advice Bureau website. It advises I should have been offered the opportunity to withdraw from the joint account, an opportunity I was not afforded by the bank. Howver, the bank maintain that I am liable, which , to take it to its logical conclusion means I am going to be paying AOL till the day I die.0

Not sure if this is any help but as SWMNBM is leaving me, I've opened a current account solely in my name and I've made sure that the joint account we had is closed. It is, and I know, 'coz I sorted it out this morning!
The other thing, and I don't know where I read it, (on here somewhere
), is to write to the credit reference people, Experian et al, and dis-associate yourself with your wife's credit file. It might not help in this case but it can't do any harm.
