Changing credit products within the same company?

Options
I have an old Barclaycard Initial that has a stupidly low limit of £260. I want to change this to something more useful. Does this mean I have to close the existing card, and open another one? How does this affect my credit history?

In the same manner, I have an Amex Red card that has become my main spend card. I'd like to change this over to one that gives me cash back. Does Amex allow such a change, where the product is different, but the available credit and history remain unaffected?

If it makes a difference, my credit record is spotless, never carry any balances, and flow through the cards is roughly £2000/mth.

Thks in advance.

I would close the Barclaycard and look at other cards offering a more useful service ie.0% on BT's or purchases.
American Express do allow transfering of accounts to new cards, give them a ring ask for the Platinium for it's cashback.
